Youth Entreprenuers in Caswell

Growing Caswell with Young Entrepreneurs

At the Earth Day Festival earlier this year, the chamber and several organizations, spearheaded by Cool Beans, a nonprofit organization with the mission to teach youth about agriculture and entrepreneurship, joined together to put on an afternoon of learning and fun for Earth Day.  The event was dedicated to recognizing ways we can be good stewards of the earth that included everything from preventing forest fires, to growing vegetables and understanding how worms make our soil work.

The highlight of the Earth Dayfestivities was the ‘Youth Pop Up Shop’. This entailed a number of youth that had a booth/table to sell various goods/services that they had personally made, created or grown.  There were offerings like plants and terrariums, hand-made crocheted items, nail painting services, art items and baked goods. And to top the actual youth market, each young person was asked to go up on stage and provide a quickone-to-two-minute commercial about their offerings so the audience would know that they had to sell. The adults at the event were very impressed at the courage these young people had getting up on the stage and speaking so well to the crowd.

At the Bright Leaf Hoedown, a similar event is planned by Cool Beans wherein the youth will be marketing their entrepreneurial ideas to the festival visitors.  Most of these youth have participated in a summer camp with Cool Beans wherein they learned the key steps required to a business going, how to market the items and how to interact with customers in a professional way.  They will once again be on stage to provide a brief ‘commercial’ for their goods.   Be sure to visit Kids Kountry between 10 am – 2 pm and you will see the Youth Pop Up Shop in action.
