Caswell's Youth Entreprenuers

Friday, April 22 was the first Earth Day Kids Festival in Yanceyville. There were over 20 activities/booths and lots of fun and food for all. Smokey the Bear and the Forestry Service were present and the Tooth Fairy in Disguise provided a story reading on stage. In addition, the STEM Innovation Station Bus was on hand along with the Gotta be NC Ag Jeep with workbooks and other goodies. The Veterans of Caswell demonstrated how to fold a flag and Miss NC Agriculture, Katie Haynes shared a presentation about her role as an ambassador for agriculture across our state as a disabled person. Many played Pickel Ball for the first time and Lillards/Caswell Catering and Kona Ice made sure no one went hungry.

The highlight of the day was the Youth Pop Up Shop. Ten small businesses run by the youth of our area, showcased their items for sale. Each young owner had the chance to get up on the stage and provide a 'commercial' for their booth and to promote their products and offerings. It was so wonderful to see the youth take the stage and share their talents in front of the crowd. They all did a fantastic job!

Thank you to Cool Beans, a program of the National Women in Agriculture Association, that was the lead coordinator of the event.
